LabMusée invites you into TRIBAL, an exhibition devoted to Taiwanese master A-Sun Wu. Vibrant canvases, monumental sculptures, immersive rooms and the Sign-Me Garden form a route in which painting is never an object hung on a wall, but a territory to walk through.
For A-Sun Wu, gesture precedes form. The line becomes ritual: it encircles, it protects, it invokes. His tribal figures summon an archaic memory that colour drags violently back into the present.
The works gathered span nearly thirty years, from 1998 to 2026: acrylic and shell powder on old wood, paintings on bark, large canvases, and sculptures of wood, bone and metal.
Around the exhibition: the tea ceremony with the Wistaria tea house on 24 and 25 October, Arts & Desserts on Saturdays in October, and yoga among the artworks.
The route continues at the LabCafé, where exceptional Taiwanese teas, signature matchas and culinary creations form the exhibition's final — edible — chapter.
A-Sun Wu
Born in 1942 in Luodong, Taiwan, A-Sun Wu trained in Taipei and at the San Fernando Royal Academy in Madrid, then lived in New York. He went on to travel through Africa, the Amazon and the South Pacific, and settled in Paris in 1990. A Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, he represented Taiwan at the São Paulo Biennial and has exhibited at the Trianon de Bagatelle, the Palais-Royal, the Musée Paul-Valéry in Sète, the State Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg and during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His work is held by the Musée Cernuschi, the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo and the Fine Arts Museums of Taipei and Kaohsiung.
