A rare place, to live and experiment in — not merely to visit
LabMusée is not a classical art centre. It is a centre of experiments: 1,200 m² where we try things institutions would not dare.
The project
Why here
Auvers-sur-Oise has drawn visitors for over a century for a single reason: someone painted here, then died here. The village lives with that magnificent shadow. LabMusée grew from the idea that a place could add something other than commemoration — living creation, made here, now, by artists who do not yet have a street named after them.
We opened a place to live in, where artistic heritage meets contemporary creation: a main exhibition hall, galleries in enfilade, permanent suites upstairs, a sculpture garden you are allowed to touch, and a café with an author. Gallery, studio, gardens and events — a total experience, extended by the LABMUSÉE Society.
We do not partition. One exhibition at a time, entrusted with the whole building. A yoga mat beneath a monumental sculpture. A pastry chef answering a painter. A Taiwanese night market in the gardens. What looks like disorder is in fact the only rule: here, art is practised as much as it is looked at.

Four ways to spend an afternoon
Le Cœur
Ground floorThe main exhibition hall. One temporary exhibition settles here at a time, without partitions: the route reads as a single sentence, under a ceiling height that welcomes monumental formats.
Les Galeries
Ground floorVolumes in enfilade, white walls and lateral daylight. They extend Le Cœur and host the more intimate hangs, the series, the works on paper.
Les Suites
First floorThe permanent art suites: Alixe Fu's gestures that never leave the walls. You climb up after the temporary exhibition, as if moving from the present to the memory of the place.
Le Jardin
OutdoorsThe sculpture garden — the Sign-Me Garden. Works you touch and sign, which travelled from the United States to Taiwan before settling facing the Oise valley.
Le LabCafé
Ground floorExceptional Taiwanese teas, signature matchas and the chef's pastry. Open to all, with or without a ticket — the exhibition's final chapter, the edible one.

A word from the founder
« I have often been asked why open an art centre in Auvers-sur-Oise, beside a village that already lives from art. That is exactly why. Auvers knows how to welcome the gaze. What it lacked was a place where looking is not enough.
LabMusée is a laboratory. We invite an artist, we hand them the whole building, and we let the work overflow: onto the walls, into the garden, onto the café plate, sometimes into the village itself. Nothing is ever fixed, and that is deliberate.
We want a place made exclusive by its standards, never by its door. Admission stays at seven euros, free for under-twelves, and Society members fund what ticketing alone could never carry. It is that double movement — an ambitious programme, an open door — that defines what we do here. »
